Preliminary Assessment of ADHD - Test Summary

Name : xxxxx
Test Date : 2010 / 01 / 02
Age : 30

Completed Assessments: Continuous Performance Test (CPT), ADHD Symptoms Inventory Based on DSM-IV Criteria

Check ADHD is a professional tool designed to support the evaluation process and diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). The assessment is comprised of two parts: an objective response evaluation task, based on classic CPT principles, and a self report or parental report (for children under 14 years of age) on ADHD symptoms. The CPT is a 20-minute task presenting odd and frequent geometric shapes requiring response only to a specific class of target shapes. The task measures errors of omission and commission as well as variability in response time and taps into individual capacities to sustain attention and inhibit impulsive responses under a monotonous and dull condition (low target frequency) and under a condition designed to invoke greater impulsivity (high target frequency). The DSM-IV based Symptoms Inventory assesses reported symptoms in the three primary domains of ADHD deficiency: inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. The report below integrates both sources of information (objective and subjective reports). Check ADHD is a product of eAgnosis that specializes in research and development of online psychodiagnostic neuropsychological tools. The development of Check ADHD was conducted under the supervision of leading cognitive and clinical scientists and its reliability, validity, and age-related norms were established via large scale and rigorous research.

Check ADHD Test Results

Sustained attention and response inhibition in a low target task
Indicators from the Continuous Performance Test (CPT) show that both the ability to sustain attention and the ability to inhibit responses and not to act impulsively in a monotonous and boring task (low target frequency) are within the expected age-related normal range.

Response time variability
This figure depicts fluctuation in response times during the part of the CPT assessing individual capacities to sustain attention and inhibit impulsive responses under monotonous and dull circumstances (low target frequency). The white background area of the figure represents the range of 1 standard deviation above or below the expected age-related norm in this part of the test - the expected age-related range for performance. The green line represents the mean response time of the person being tested. Appearance of the green line in the top gray area of the figure indicates slow average response time relative to the age group. Appearance of the green line in the bottom gray area of the figure indicates faster average response times relative to the age group and could be suggestive of impulsivity. High fluctuation in response time could indicate inconsistency in attentive and impulse control performance throughout the task. The present assessment indicates consistent performance under monotonous and dull circumstances.

Sustained attention and response inhibition in a high target task
Indicators from the Continuous Performance Test (CPT) show that the ability to inhibit responses and not to act impulsively in a condition designed to invoke impulsivity (high target frequency) is considerably lower than the expected age-related norm. In contrast, the ability to sustain attention under this condition is within the expected age-related normal range.

Response time variability
This figure depicts fluctuation in response times during the part of the CPT assessing individual capacities to sustain attention and inhibit impulsive responses under circumstances that invoke impulsivity (high target frequency). The present assessment indicates consistent performance under circumstances designed to invoke impulsivity.

ADHD Symptoms Inventory

The ADHD Symptoms Inventory surveys symptoms associated with attention deficit and hyperactivity (ADHD) as indicated in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association (DSM-IV). The items of the inventory represent two categories: 9 items reflect inattentive symptoms and 9 items reflect impulsivity and hyperactivity. Positive report on 5 items in a specific category indicates some risk for a disorder in that particular category. Positive report on 6 items in a specific category indicates considerable risk for a disorder in that particular category.

Self-Report on the ADHD Symptoms Inventory:
Inattentiveness - 6 items
Impulsivity and hyperactivity - 6 items

Summary of Test Results

Sustained attention and distractibility
The response pattern on the ADHD Symptoms Inventory indicates considerable difficulty to sustain attention. Indicators from the Continuous Performance Test (CPT) show that the ability to sustain attention in a monotonous and boring task (low target frequency) is within the expected age-related norm. Indicators from the CPT also show that the ability to sustain attention in a condition designed to invoke impulsivity (high target frequency) is within the expected age-related normal range. Finally, the CPT results indicate that under monotonous and dull conditions response times to the target shape were stable and within the expected age-related norm.

Response inhibition and impulsivity
The response pattern on the ADHD Symptoms Inventory indicates impulsivity and considerable difficulty in inhibiting uncalled for responses. Indicators from the Continuous Performance Test (CPT) show that the ability to inhibit responses and not to act impulsively in a monotonous and boring task (low target frequency) is within the expected age-related norm. Indicators from the CPT also show that the ability to inhibit responses and not to act impulsively in a condition designed to invoke impulsivity (high target frequency) is considerably lower than the expected age-related norm. Finally, the CPT results indicate that under conditions designed to invoke impulsivity, response times to the target shape were stable and within the expected age-related norm.

Self-Report(DSM) Low Target Frequency High Target Frequency
Sustained Attention Significnt Symptoms Normative Normative
Response Inhibition Significnt Symptoms Normative Below Age Group
Performance Consistency   Normative Normative

In conclusion, the compiled results of the Check ADHD assessment indicate that at least one of the measured indices shows functioning that is significantly lower relative to the expected age-related norm.

This report is meant to provide a preliminary assessment of sustained attention and response inhibition performance. It is not a medical advice, a professional opinion, or a substitute for consultation with a specialist about a formal diagnosis of these conditions and their treatment. In addition, it is possible that the test results show normal performance, but an additional or a different test will find dysfunctions related to Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
